Sensex Surges Over 900 Points as Nifty Crosses 23,300 in Early Trade
The NSE Nifty 50 increased by 216.40 points, or 0.94 percent, reaching 23,269.50 in early trading after opening at 23,222.30, compared to its previous close of 23,053.10. The index achieved an intraday high of 23,292.55 and a low of 23,211.80. Market breadth was favorable, with 38 stocks advancing, 11 declining, and one remaining unchanged.
Sachin Relekar, a senior equity fund manager at Axis Asset Management Company, indicated that Indian equities might recover in the remaining months of the financial year, bolstered by resilient corporate earnings and steady economic growth. He noted that despite the macroeconomic uncertainties stemming from high crude prices, geopolitical tensions, and global monetary tightening, India's sustained growth above 7 percent could enhance market prospects.

Relekar mentioned that while some earnings have improved, stock prices have not reflected this due to global factors. However, he believes the current risk-reward scenario is more favorable than it was a year ago, which could facilitate a market rebound.
In South Korea, shares rebounded from an early decline, supported by dip buying and robust export growth. The benchmark KOSPI rose 0.34 percent to 5,750.23 after initially falling nearly two percent. South Korea's exports nearly doubled in October, marking the sharpest increase in over 50 years, driven by strong global demand for AI-related investments boosting chip shipments. This positive data raised expectations for further upgrades to corporate earnings forecasts.
However, concerns regarding heavy AI spending on Wall Street dampened sentiment at the market's opening. Samsung Electronics saw a decline of 1.11 percent, while rival SK Hynix gained 0.92 percent. Foreign investors continued to be net sellers, offloading shares worth 344 billion won, and the Korean won weakened by 0.24 percent against the dollar, with government bond yields rising.
Positive Market Signals Boost Indian Equity Benchmarks
Indian equity benchmarks are anticipated to open higher, aided by a drop in crude oil prices amid hopes for a diplomatic resolution in the Iran conflict and stronger-than-expected earnings from Reliance Industries. The GIFT Nifty was trading at 23,258.5 at 7:58 AM, indicating a positive start for the Nifty 50, which closed at 23,053.1 on Friday.
Brent crude prices fell to around $111 a barrel from a six-month high of $118. Foreign investors purchased Rs 36 billion worth of Indian equities on Friday, extending their buying streak to six sessions within the past ten trading days. Reliance Industries reported a 40.6 percent increase in net profit for the September quarter, driven by its energy sector and Jio Platforms. Auto stocks are expected to be in focus following October sales data, with Maruti Suzuki reporting a 21 percent increase in total sales. Bharat Electronics also posted strong quarterly earnings, while Sun Pharma is facing regulatory restrictions on ophthalmic products manufactured at its Assam facility.
Mixed Asian Market Reactions Amid Ongoing Tech Sector Concerns
Asian markets exhibited mixed results as technology stocks struggled to recover from last week's selloff, which was triggered by concerns over heavy AI investments and disappointing earnings signals from major tech companies. Japan's Nikkei fell by 0.3 percent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng and Shanghai Composite gained 0.3 percent each. South Korea's Samsung declined, while Taiwan's TSMC saw an increase. Oil prices dropped more than two percent following reports that US President Donald Trump preferred to continue negotiations with Iran rather than resume military action after the US midterm elections.
Despite this, Trump reiterated his threat of renewed strikes, while Tehran warned that any renewed conflict could extend longer. Investors are also monitoring the US midterm elections, with Democrats expected to gain significant ground and potentially take control of the House of Representatives. Upcoming earnings reports from Apple, AMD, and Palantir will provide further insights into the technology sector.
