MEXC Reports Trading Activity in Storage and Memory Stocks During Tech Earnings

MEXC, known for its zero-fee digital asset trading, has published new insights into stock futures trading during the latest U.S. tech earnings season. The data covers the period from July 20 to August 7, 2026, when six major technology companies reported their earnings. Notably, storage and memory stocks represented 67.3% of trading activity, a substantial increase from 57.5% in the preceding 19 days. In contrast, the combined trading share of Alphabet, Tesla, Meta, Microsoft, Apple, and Amazon remained relatively stable, moving only from 2.6% to 2.7%. This indicates that storage and memory stocks were traded nearly 25 times more than the major tech companies during this period.

The report also noted that chip design and manufacturing stocks, including NVIDIA, saw little change, with their share at 5.4%, compared to 5.3% prior to the earnings announcements. A significant driver of trading activity was the earnings report from SK Hynix, which revealed a remarkable 257% year-over-year increase in second-quarter revenue and a 557% rise in operating profit, attributed to heightened demand for AI servers, rising memory prices, and long-term supply agreements.

On the day of SK Hynix's announcement, MEXC reported a 140% increase in trading volume for Micron and a 110% increase for the Roundhill Memory ETF. Samsung also experienced a trading volume surge of 272% ahead of its earnings report the following day. Additionally, MEXC noted increases in trading volumes for related ETFs, including the Direxion Daily South Korea Bull 3X Shares ETF and the Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X Shares ETF.

Following Samsung's projection of stronger demand for server DRAM and enterprise SSDs, MEXC's trading volume for Micron and other related stocks continued to rise, reflecting the interconnected nature of the market.

The report further analyzed trading patterns, revealing that 60% of the key assets examined reached their highest trading volume outside of their earnings days. Specifically, 50% peaked after earnings announcements, while 10% peaked before. SK Hynix's futures product tracking Korean-listed shares peaked on August 11, 13 days post-earnings, reaching about 1.5 times its earnings-day volume.

MEXC also observed that trading activity responded to industry news even when traditional equity markets were closed, with average Sunday trading volume for MEXC Stock Futures at 25.4% of the Tuesday-to-Friday daily average. On August 9, for instance, individual stock volume on the platform fell 40.3% from the previous day, while SK Hynix's product surged by approximately 228% following news of its factory investment plans.
